Srinagar: One protester died after he drowned in river Jhelum while being chased by forces and scores of protesters were injured as clashes and protests amid a complete shutdown continued across Kashmir Valley on Thursday as the ongoing uprising entered its 55th day after the killing of popular militant commander Burhan Wani.
Eyewitnesses said that a youth namely Danish Ahmad Haroon, resident of Palpora in Noorbagh drowned in River Jhelum at Palpora after being teargassed and chased away by forces during protests in the area.”The teargas shelling scared him and in the meanwhile he fell into Jhelum from a small bridge and drowned,” they said.
Reports said that attempts are on to fish out his body but so far there were no traces. The incident triggered massive protests in the area and its adjoining localities and were on when reports last came in. (GNS)
