Sub-inspector among 3 cops injured in IED blast

Tral: Militants on Friday night detonated an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at Chandrigam area of restive Tral twon of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district that left three cops including an Sub-Inspector critically injured.

A police official told news agency CNS that in a bid to attract the attention of government forces, militants first fired some shots in air. “As per the expectation of militants shortly after the aerial firing government forces rushed towards the area not knowing it was trap. As soon as an armoured vehicle reached near Chandrigam, militant detonated IED that exploded with a bang creating panic among the forces personnel,” he said and added that a Sub Inspector (SI) and two constables of Jammu and Kashmir police were injured in the blast.

He identified the injured SI as Nazir Ahmed. Locals said that shortly after the blast they heard policemen crying for help. “Reinforcement was called in to nab the militants; however they managed to escape from the spot. During the cordon and search operation no arrests were made,” they added.

Reports said that Army patrolling party headed by police and Army officials inspected the spot of incident on Saturday. (CNS)
