Srinagar: More than twenty shops were gutted down in a ‘mysterious’ fire incident in frontier district of north-Kashmir’s Kupwara.
Eyewitnesses and reports told GNS that the fire which broke out around 9:40 pm on Sunday night at Iqbal Market razed at least 22 shops to ground, in a matter of moments.
Soon after the incident, the authorities pressed fire-tenders into service to douse-off the flames. In the meantime, locals also rushed the spot to put off the enraging fire.
Alleging fire and emergency services for their lackadaisical approach, the shop-owners said that, “the fire-tenders sent to the spot, ran short of water which according to them led to more damage.”
When contacted, DySP HQ Kupwara, Fayaz Hussain Geelani told GNS that the immediate cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. “We have deputed a team to the spot and let’s wait what comes out,” he said.
Meanwhile, the fire continued, when reports last came in. (GNS)
