Big Frozen Rush II to witness first Kashmiri female snow racer

Srinagar: The only Snow AutoCross in the country, fever is catching up and how. This time the motorsporting bug has bitten a doctor. Here’s introducing, Dr. Sharmeen Mushtaq Nizami, the very first female participant of Big Frozen Rush 2.

While it is still a male-dominated sport, this season, for the first time ever, the Kashmir motorsport scene will witness its very first Kashmiri female snow race driver as a participant in upcoming Big Frozen Rush- second edition. Dr. Sharmeen is a fulltime practicing doctor and a mother of two.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Sharmeen said- “Wow, I am finally going to race. It’s going to be a long lived dream coming true; the feeling still needs to sink in. I have been driving since past 20+ years and just getting behind the wheel gives me thrills, albeit racing for the first time ever. So when Kashmir Off Road introduced motosporting activities in the region, deep down I felt, yes! This is what I have been wanting to do. I have been following their activities closely since many of my relatives are already a part of their club. So now, here I am, excited and already registered myself for the upcoming Big Frozen Rush2 in Gulmarg”.

On being asked, how she relates her profession as a doctor to her passion of motorsporting, she said- “Why not? If you have it in you and you are provided with a well-structured platform to show your skills then you must give it a try at least. I want to come up as an inspiration to many other aspiring women of Kashmir who want to make a difference and break the barriers, continue to push boundaries to live their dream. Perhaps in the future we will have a team of Kashmiri female racers too”.

Having its first female participant for Big Frozen Rush 2, Ali Sajid (Founder/ Owner, Kashmir Off Road), said- “This is exactly what I have been talking about and working towards since the inception of Kashmir Off Road. I always had a strong feeling that we have ardent motorsporting enthusiasts in the region and see now we have people like Dr. Sharmeen on board. We welcome her whole heartedly. Motorsports in Kashmir is still going through its developing phase but is already seeing steady growth with a large number of new drivers participating in our activities, which is promising. I extend my best wishes to her and advise her not to get distracted, stay focused in the pursuit of victory. She looks prepared.”

Big Frozen Rush 2 Snow Autocross is scheduled to commence on 20th and 21st January, 2018. The event is presented by Kashmir Off Road in association with 92.7 Big Fm and supported by J & K Tourism. The registrations have begun but are limited. The autocross shall take place in Gulmarg.
