Srinagar: A government degree college in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district was on Thursday named after a local Army solider was killed.
Official sources said that at a function earlier in the day, Government Degree College Shopian was named after paratrooper Imtiyaz Ahmed Thokar, who was killed during an anti-militant operation in Sopore town on February 24, 2015.
Senior citizens, military officers and family members of the martyred soldier were present at the function when the institution was named “Imtiaz Ahmed Thokar Memorial Model Degree College, Shopian”.
The government has constituted a committee to name educational institutions, highways etc. in the name of prominent personalities, police and other security forces personnel to recognize the services rendered by them. (PTK)
