Five family members shifted to hospital after consuming forest herbs in Kupwara

Kupwara: Five members of a family from border district Kupwara were shifted to SMHS Hospital Srinagar after they ate dried Herbs with a meal and lost consciousness.

A senior health official in Kupwara told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that five patients were admitted at sub-district hospital (SDH) Kralpora at 2 am on Friday and as per the attendants they had taken some herb with ‘Nishast’.

After consumption, all five members of the family felt unconscious.

“The patients were referred to DH Handwara,” he said.

At district Hospital Handwara, a top health official told KNO that the patients after receiving the treatment were referred to SMHS in Srinagar.

“The patients were not in their senses. Two minors vomited repeatedly, however after showing some improvement, all were shifted to SMHS Hospital Srinagar for further treatment,” he said.

The official said that all the five members are safe and out of danger as communicated by the health officials at SMHS Hospital and will be discharged by tomorrow accordingly.

The five members of a family were identified as Ab Guffar khan S/o Ab Ahad khan age 50 years, Javid Ahmad Khan S/o Ab Ahad khan age 36 years, Masooda Begium w/o Javid Ahmad khan age 35 years, Basit Majeed S/o Ab Majeed khan age 12 years and Hamid Majeed S/o Ab Majeed Khan age 10 years all are resident of Meeyal kralpora.

A police official also confirmed the incident and said that investigation into the circumstances of the incident is underway—(KNO)
