Srinagar: Students at Government Medical College Srinagar Monday held strong protest demonstrations against the college authorities for failing to take action against a group of people who allegedly raised slogans in favour of state Health Minister Lal Singh during his visit to the college.

According to GNS, the enraged college students alleged the move as a ‘politically motivated act’ and in the meantime demanded the concerned authorities to take stern action against those involved in the act.

“The institute is a learning centre and not a political platform where anyone will come and shout slogans”, the students said. Questioning the act, the students said that “How come they shouted slogans inside the college premises and what led them to burn crackers?”

“More surprisingly why the college authorities are yet to take action”, they said while adding that “the CCTV footage will be available then why are they lingering the issue this long”. “It seems to be a politically-motivated act which should be probed thoroughly”, they added.

Meanwhile, coming close on the heels of protest demonstrations by the post graduate students which entered second day amid demands of a ‘safe and secure’ environment to perform their duties, Dr Kaisar Ahmad soon after assuming the charge of the college today took a detailed round of the hospital to enhance patient care and security of the premier hospital.

The newly appointed principal on the occasion said that ten more security men will be placed at the entry points within the hospital to make doctors feel safe so that they perform their duties without any scare. (GNS)
