Kashmir Crisis: Employees’ leaders sent to Jail

Srinagar: Authorities on Tuesday sent seven Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC) leaders including its chief Abdul Qayoom Wani to different jails, sources said.

The leaders were arrested on Monday as they appeared in Lal Chowk to protest against civilian killings at the hands of government forces. Sources said that said leaders including Farooq Ahmad Trali, were shifted to district jail Baramulla and Kupwara from Kothibagh police station. Police had detained EJAC chief Wani along with other senior members at Press Enclave. They were lodged in Kothibagh police station.

Sources said that most of these EJAC leaders were shifted to Sub-jail Barmaulla. Police on Monday had foiled their protest sit-in staged against the killing of 67 civilians by government forces and to press for inquiry by Supreme Court judge to look into the excessive use of force on civilians. They had also staged protest what they termed as the government diktat forcing employees to report on duties in turmoil. (CNS)
