Bhaderwah: Independent legislator Engineer Rasheed was attacked by right-wing miscreants in presence of Police officers in Dumail area of Bhaderwah town when he was on way to Doda district.
Reports said that Rasheed met different Muslim delegations at Dak Bunglow after local administration disallowed him to hold a public meeting in the district. Eyewitnesses told CNS that more than two dozen activists of BJP and RSS stopped Rasheed at Domail area and attacked his Black Scorpio with stones. “The miscreants attacked the Rasheed’s vehicle with stones and broke its windshield. Rashid who was seated inside the vehicle broke down while a police party headed by ASP Amit Bhaseem acted as mute spectators. The miscreants tried to drag Rasheed out from vehicle and even sprinkled black ink on his face. Rasheed and his colleague Inam-un-Nabi received wounds in the attack.”
Eyewitnesses added that Rasheed managed to escape from the spot after some Muslim shopkeepers rushed to the spot and stopped miscreants from chasing him. “Police acted as mute spectator and gave free hand to Hindu zealots. For 10 minutes a Police Officer Assistant Superintendent of Police Amit Bhasin didn’t utter a word and did nothing to stop the miscreants,” the witnesses added.
“It were the Muslim shopkeepers from Dumail who saved Rasheed from the wrath of the miscreants. The miscreants associated with Bharatiya Janata Party, also threw black colour at Rashid’s car and caught hold of his collar with an intention to drag him out from his vehicle,” said an eyewitness Manzoor Ahmed.
Following the attack, Rasheed staged a dharna at Muslim majority area Amira Nagar and even denied security from police and other officials. Hundreds of Muslims gathered around Rasheed at denounced the action.
Confirming the incident, Legislator Rasheed told CNS that he was shocked to see police personnel acting as mute spectators and giving free hand to BJP and RSS goons. “The attack was carried out in a planned manner. Police acted as mute spectator and behaved as nothing has happened,” Rasheed said before leaving for Doda to address a public meeting. (CNS)
