Mehbooba Mufti’s cavalcade attacked by stone pelters in Anantnag

Srinagar: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Mehbooba Mufti`s cavalcade was attacked on Monday by stone pelters in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir. Mehbooba escaped unhurt, but her escort vehicle was damaged.

Police sources said the former J&K chief minister was returning after paying obeisance at a dargah in Khiram village when some people pelted stones on her cavalcade. She was on her way to Bijbehara town in Anantnag district.

Security forces immediately cordoned off the area to provide a safe passage to her. Mehbooba latter reached Bijbehara to address a party workers convention.

Mehbooba Mufti is contesting the ongoing Lok Sabha election from the Anantnag seat, which she had won in 2014.

The south Kashmir constituency, spread over the four districts of Anantnag, Kulgam, Pulwama and Shopian, is going to the polls in three phases from April 29 to May 6.

Former Chief Minster and National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah, has condemned the incident.

“Most unfortunate. We condemn this attack & send our best wishes to her injured SSG security person for a speedy recovery,” Omar wrote on twitter. (PTK)
