MeT predicts scattered to fairly widespread rain in Jammu and Kashmir

Srinagar: The weatherman on Monday predicted scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rain and thundershowers in Jammu and Kashmir over the next 24 hours.

An official of meteorological department told Kashmir News Service (KNS) that there is possibility of isolated to scattered light rain and thunder showers for subsequent two days.

Meanwhile, Srinagar-Leh highway was closed for traffic after multiple landslides, triggered by heavy rains, hit at Zojila Pass.

“Intermittent shooting coming on Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44) . Mughal road through for LMVs only slide clearance work in progress. However, SSG road still blocked,” J&K Traffic Police said in a tweet.

An official said that traffic movement was suspended on the road after landslides hit Zojila Pass.

Meanwhile, reports said that a boy was washed away while property worth lakhs was damaged in flash floods that hit Surankote area of Poonch district late last night.

Officials said that army along with locals have launched a rescue operation to locate the body of the boy.

He also said that dozens of vehicles and many residential houses were damaged due to flash floods in the area. (KNS)
