Militants target police party in central Kashmir, cop among 3 injured

Budgam: The unidentified militants opened fire on the police party in main market in Pakharpora area of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Friday.

A police official told CNS that post congregational prayers, separatist leader Zaffar Akbar Bhat started addressing people when suddenly militants attack the police party near Jammu Kashmir Bank.

Three persons including an Assistant Sub Inspector Abdul Rasheed were injured in the attack, he said.

Witnesses said shortly after the incident the area was immediately cordoned off and search operation was launched to flush out the militants.

“Besides the cop, two civilians with multiple wounds were brought to hospital. They were given first aid and referred to SMHS Hospital Srinagar for advanced treatment,” Block Medical Officer Pakharpora Dr Neyazi told CNS and identified the two injured civilians as Muhammad Ayub Wani son of Ghulam Muhammad of Pakharpora and Muhammad Anwar Thokar son of Habibullah Tohkar a resident of Drabgam Pulwama.
