Modi’s remarks on Kashmir a joke: Shabir Shah

Srinagar: The incarcerated chairman of Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) Shabir Ahmad Shah today termed the remarks of Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a joke saying the ongoing uprising in Jammu Kashmir is a freedom movement against ‘India’s illegal and forcible subjugation’.

In a statement issued to press, Shah said the ongoing movement in Jammu Kashmir is not for the development but it is the issue of future of 1 crore 25 lakh people of the State.

He said Indian rulers are responsible for turning Jammu Kashmir into a hell and that the Indian prime minister’s statement of ‘Insaniyat and Jamhooriyat’ added salt to the injuries of the people of the State.

“We want to tell Modi as to who will return the eye-sight to a 15-year-old Insha, what was her fault. Insha, Asif, Firdous, Zahid, Junaid, and hundreds of others have been blinded by the forces. What was the fault of a 5-year-old child into whose eyes forces inserted a needle? Every Kashmiri including women, elders, and children were targeted and you talk about democracy and humanity. Are you making a joke of yourself?” Shah questioned.

Shah said Modi cannot mislead the world by saying that the uprising in Kashmir is run by a handful of elements. “If Modi has courage, let him announce a referendum in Jammu and Kashmir and whatever results, would be acceptable to us,” he said.

Terming the pro-India politicians of State as power-hungry, Shah said they don’t even feel ashamed of labeling the ongoing freedom movement as “halla gulla”. “These politicians broke all the records in fulfilling the agenda of India in J&K and now separated 65 families from their loved ones. These are shameless people,” he said.

The DFP chairman also expressed strong resentment over the Indian Supreme Court’s staying of proceedings against the police officers involved in the killing of Tengpora youth, Shabir Ahmad saying this institution always showed its bias towards the matters related to Kashmir. “This is a murder of justice and a green signal to the forces to play bloodbath in Kashmir,” he said.

Reacting against the remarks of BJP general secretary Ram Madhav that government should act tough against resistance leaders, Shah termed it frustration of the BJP leader.

“India has already unleashed a reign of terror among the people of Kashmir. Now it seems there is no option left for New Delhi than to bombard the whole Valley. It has been proved that no power on earth can suppress our sentiments,” Shah said. (PTK)
