Police arrest youth, employee in Ganderbal, Women block highway

Ganderbal: Women in large numbers today held a protest demonstration and shouted pro-freedom slogans at Beehama Ganderbal after a boy was arrested by police from his shop at Beehama.
The boy according to police, is allegedly involved in the stone pelting over police and security forces during the current Kashmir unrest.

The women protesters shouted slogans and attempted to block Srinagar-Ladakh national highway near Beehama. Police team lead by SHO Ganderbal Asif Iqbal reached the spot and successfully dispersed the protesting women. Police also used a single tear smoke shell to see the end of the protest.

Meanwhile, a government employee from Barsoo who is working as a peon in Rural Development Department and is posted in BDO office Ganderbal, was arrested by police. However, he was later on released.

Sources said, the son of the said employee is listed as a stone pelter in police records and he has been asked to produce his son in the concerned police station.
Sources added that he was released after a delegation from BDO office Ganderbal met deputy commissioner, Ganderbal and requested him for the release of this poor from police custody. Overall situation in the district remained peaceful and there were no reports of law and order issues from any corner of the district. (PTK)
