Srinagar: State Bank of India building gutted in a mysterious fire during the dead of the Tuesday night at Regal Chowk Srinagar, police said.
The Bank is guarded by Para-military Central Reserve Police Force round the clock.
The Bank building went into flames at around 3am while dozens of fire tenders rushed in to contain the fire. The cause of fire is not known yet, however a police official told CNS that the building gutted due to short-circuit.
A Bank official said that important documents and assets turned into ashes. “We are assessing the quantum of the losses incurred due to fire,” he said.
Meanwhile, three shops were gutted in mysterious fire at Hajin area of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district. A police official said that a footware, mobile and readymade garments shops were gutted completely. “We have registered a case and investigation has been taken up,” he said. (CNS)
