Scattered, widespread rain forecast from May 04-17

Srinagar: Weatherman on Saturday forecast “scattered” and “fairly widespread” rain from 4 to May 7 and has issued “yellow warning” for isolated lightning and thundershowers with gusty winds in Jammu and Kashmir.

Till May 3, isolated light rain and thundershowers in Kashmir and Pirpanjal range of Jammu division towards late afternoon have been predicted. “There is possibility of scattered rain on May 4, fairly widespread rain on May 5 and 6 and scattered rain on May 7,” a MeT official said about the forecast for one week.

The weather department has also issued ‘yellow warning for “isolated lightning/ thundershowers with gusty wind 30- 40-kmph” for both Jammu and Kashmir divisions from May 1 to 5. There are four types of colour codes signifying the level of caution: green which means no action, yellow—situation to be watched), amber –government agencies need to be prepared for severe weather and red –action needed by the agencies.

The meteorological department official said that Srinagar recorded a low of 9.4°C against 11.4°C on the previous night. The temperature was 0.3°C below normal for this time of the season in the summer capital of J&K where 1.4mm of rain was recorded during last 24 hours till 0830 hours, he said. (PTK)
