Amid pro-freedom slogans, Anantnag youth laid to rest

Srinagar: A 20 year old youth was killed after forces fired pellets to disperse the protesters in Batengo area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

Witnesses said that a pro-freedom rally was carried out by the people here but used tear gas canisters and pellets to disperse the youth during which scores of people sustained injuries who were shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment while two among them were shifted to District Hospital Anantnag.

Medical Superintendent of District Hospital Anantnag, Dr Majid Mehrab told KNS that two injured youth were brought to the hospital while one among them died on the way to the hospital.


He identified the youth as Yawar Mushtaq Bhat, son of Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat and said that he had sustained pellet injuries in abdomen and chest. “The other youth has also received pellet injuries and is being treated in the hospital,” he said.


However, reports said that forces fired teargas shells at mourners who were marching with the body of a youth killed in forces’ action.
